1999 Macintosh Update Instructions

If you're having problems updating TaxCut from within the program, follow the instructions below to download and install the update from this location. If you haven't tried updating TaxCut by choosing Update TaxCut from the Tools menu, we recommend that you try this method first.

Installing the Program Update

Note: If you have moved or renamed your TaxCut folder, you must move it back to the top level of your drive and restore its name to Kiplinger TaxCut '99.

1. Click the Program Update link above to download and save the file to the hard disk. Remember its location. Do not save the file in the same folder that contains your Kiplinger TaxCut program files.
2. Close TaxCut if it's open.
3. Open the TaxCut '99 Program Update C folder, and click the TaxCut '99 Update icon.
   If the TaxCut '99 Program Update C folder doesn't automatically appear on your desktop after you download the update, double-click the hqx file and/or the sea (self-extracting archive) icon on your desktop.
   Note: If your Macintosh can't find the application program that opens the update file, you need to download Stuffit Expander from http://www.aladdinsys.com.
4. Highlight Kiplinger TaxCut '99, and click the Update button. The update program creates a new Kiplinger TaxCut '99 icon.
5. In the TaxCut '99 Program Update C folder, click the Update TaxCut Forms icon.
6. Navigate to the drive containing the Kiplinger TaxCut '99 folder, and highlight the Kiplinger TaxCut '99 folder by clicking on it. Do not double-click it.
   Note: The name of the computer's hard drive should appear above the list of files. If Kiplinger TaxCut '99 appears above the list of files, pull down the list and select the name of the hard drive. Then click on Kiplinger TaxCut '99 to highlight it.
7. Click the Extract button. When prompted, click the Replace All Duplicates button.
8. When the update has finished running, open the Kiplinger TaxCut '99 folder, and drag the "Old Kiplinger TaxCut '99" icon to the trash.
9. Empty the trash.

Installing the Help Update

1. Click one of the Help Update links above to download and save the file to the hard disk. Remember its location. Do not save the file in the same folder that contains your Kiplinger TaxCut program files.
   -- Click the Deluxe Help Update link if you purchased your federal program on CD-ROM.
   -- Click the Basic Help Update link if you purchased your federal program on the web.
   
2. Close TaxCut if it's open.
3. Navigate to the drive containing the Kiplinger TaxCut '99 folder, and highlight the Kiplinger TaxCut '99 folder by clicking on it. Do not double-click it.
   Note: The name of the computer's hard drive should appear above the list of files. If Kiplinger TaxCut '99 appears above the list of files, pull down the list and select the name of the hard drive. Then click on Kiplinger TaxCut '99 to highlight it.
   
4. Click the Extract button. When prompted, click the Replace All Duplicates button.
