Common questions about user profiles

RESOLUTION:

Below are answers to questions you might have about user profiles, which are an integral part of the 2007 and 2008 versions of Home and Business Attorney, WILLPower, Business Attorney, and Real Estate Attorney.

What is a user profile?

All of your documents and personal information are stored in the program as a single file. This file is referred to as a user profile and carries an .flp extension. The file is encrypted to protect your private information and passwords.

Information in the user profile, such as addresses and telephone numbers, is automatically pre-filled as you complete and customize legal documents. As a result, you only need to enter your personal or business information once.

Is a user profile required to use the program?

Yes, the program won't let you create a document until you have created a user profile. It's easy to create a user profile. Just enter a profile name, user name, and the state that you live in, and you're done.

If I'm creating a document with another person's name on it, do I need to create another user profile?

No, you don't. If you're creating a will for your spouse, for example, the document might be pre-filled with information from the currently selected user profile, but you can simply type over an entry or select a different option.
